The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) is the representative body of the UK’s largest and most vibrant manufacturing sector. Our Regulation and Science team sits at the heart of an evolving regulatory landscape, helping food companies and sectors navigate developments and providing an important interface with regulators on the development of food safety policy.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Regulation and Science team as our Senior Regulatory Executive. The role will lead on a range of policies, likely to include food ingredients and improvement agents (additives, enzymes, flavourings) and food contact materials (packaging migration safety).
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse scientific, regulatory, and policy developments across GB, EU, and Codex Alimentarius.
- Provide written summaries of regulatory changes and verbal updates to companies and FDF colleagues.
- Respond to Government calls for evidence and public consultations, including data collation and analysis, and policy position papers.
- Work closely with technical staff in food manufacturing companies and manage technical committees.
- Liaise with Government officials and represent FDF at external meetings.
- Provide expert advice and briefing across FDF policy teams, particularly to the packaging team and specialist food sector groups.
- Collaborate with supply chain partners and specialist trade associations, and liaise with European counterparts, particularly FoodDrinkEurope.
- Create content for the FDF website, including regulatory toolkits and policy briefings.
Requirements
- Degree in food science or a relevant discipline.
- Experience in the food industry, regulatory authority, trade association, or similar organisation.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate written summaries of scientific and regulatory information.
- Knowledge of UK and EU food law, particularly related to food additives, food contact materials, novel foods, and/or labelling.
- Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to build and maintain working relationships within companies and with key external stakeholders.
