Muntons - Bioenergy Plant
Muntons is nearing completion of a bioenergy plant at its Stowmarket site, transforming the business by reducing its carbon emissions by over 50%. In 2021, Muntons Stowmarket will become self-sufficient for heat by switching from already best in class natural gas systems to efficient and almost carbon zero biomass-fuelled boilers and will cogenerate electricity. This dramatic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions will allow Muntons to beat its science-based target, a pledge made in 2010, and externally verified to ensure its operations did not contribute to a global warming potential of >1.5C by the year 2025. It is a major step towards becoming carbon zero by 2050 and is part of a group GHG reduction of 27,000 tonnes of GHG since 2010 - the equivalent of 6000 cars.
