Some of the key points from our response are:
- Proposals to ban multibuys and temporary price reductions will further drive up food prices during a cost of living crisis.
- Proposals to restrict promotions will disproportionately affect smaller Scottish manufacturers who use pricing and promotions to encourage shoppers to switch brands within a category.
- The Scottish Government’s evidence referenced in the consultation is based on research pre-pandemic using 10-year-old shopper data. Policy intervention that will impact on both businesses and households should be based on latest available and most relevant data sets.
- The restrictions will hinder industry progress in providing healthier options for consumers.
