FDF Guidance on Allergen Recall Prevention

Our new FDF allergen guidance aims to assist food manufacturers in identifying the issues that lead to allergen incidents. It also helps to determine the appropriate actions to prevent recurrence and avoid allergen withdrawals or consumer recalls.

Supported by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), our guidance aims to help prevent, manage, and investigate food allergen-related incidents or ‘near-misses’. It serves as a starting point for companies unfamiliar with investigating allergen incidents.

Effective allergen management, whether dealing with ingredients or the risk of cross-contamination, is crucial and requires thorough risk assessments. The guidance outlines steps to be integrated into food safety management procedures to reduce the risk of allergen-related recalls.

The guidance has been developed in collaboration with experts from across the FDF membership and aims to promote better understanding across the wider food industry.
