Modern Slavery – what the food and drink sector needs to know

26 March 2025

Understanding and addressing modern slavery is crucial for food & drink manufacturers, with the structure of the sector making modern slavery a critical issue.

International supply chains may mean that ingredients and products are sourced from countries with weak labour regulations. Complex supply chains can lead to challenges in tracking and monitoring sources of supplies from farm to table. Additionally, the sector relies on industries that are considered high risk in this area – agriculture, fishing, processing and manufacturing.

Watch CMS's essential webinar, where they will discuss the indicators of modern slavery, how to raise concerns, the importance of a modern slavery statement and how to engage senior management on this issue.

CMS also explain what you need to do to ensure compliance with key regulation in this area, including:

  • UK Modern Slavery Act
  • EU Forced Labour Regulation
  • Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive
