Genetic Technologies (GT)

The Genetic Technologies (GT) alert group provides members with the opportunity to provide input to FDF's activities relating to Genetic Modification and Precision Breeding (aka Gene Editing), and allows members to receive targeted information and regulatory developments on new breeding techniques, covering both genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and precision bred organisms (PBOs - aka gene editing). It also supports the core food safety workstreams of the Food Safety Committee (FSC).

Committee Purpose

The main purposes of the GT alert group is:

  • To provides members with the opportunity to provide input to FDF's activities relating to Precision Breeding and Genetic Modification.
  • To ensure FDF members are provided with timely and accurate advice in respect of GMO & PBO ingredients.
  • To monitor and contribute when needed to developments on the review of GMO & PBO use of authorised food and feed products.
  • To monitor the changes in PBO & GMO approval decision making process.
