The provision of safe, authentic and traceable food is of the highest importance to our sector. Food businesses must comply with all relevant food regulations, which need to be built upon sound science and evidence.
To inform and protect consumers' interests, regulatory systems are in place to ensure food law is appropriately applied across the entire food supply chain. Food law is developed in the UK by central government and the devolved administrations, with the enforcement of these food standards (e.g. food safety and labelling) being the responsibility of local authorities.
The FDF works with member companies and stakeholders to ensure that pragmatic food regulations provide a level playing field for businesses whilst maintaining consumer protection.
