The FDF responds to ONS labour market data

Commenting on today’s release of the ONS labour market data, the FDF's Economic Policy Manager Liliana Danila said:

“With nearly 470,000 employees right across the country – 9,000 more than pre-pandemic levels – the UK’s food and drink manufacturers have a unique role to play in levelling up the nation. However, like many parts of the economy, our companies are still experiencing significant and stubborn labour shortages, affecting a variety of roles from warehouse operators to engineers.

“Automation can ease some of the pressures but we need to make it easier for more businesses to access and invest in new technologies. The FDF’s Innovation Gateway aims to offer practical support to firms of all sizes to help them harness the opportunities that technology can offer.”
