Our Net Zero Programme

Reducing carbon emissions to meet net zero holds challenges and opportunities for Scotland’s food and drink industry. Our manufacturers and producers have made great progress - but we need to do more, faster.

Our Net Zero Programme is here to ensure that everyone in Scotland’s food and drink industry understand net zero, knows where we’re going and knows how to get there.

We are hosting this programme on behalf of the Scotland Food & Drink Partnership. This is part of partnership's Net Zero Commitment to ensure we can deliver net zero food and drink products on our supermarket shelves by 2045.

Guide to Retail and Foodservice Sustainability Targets

The Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Programme has launched a comprehensive guide for Scottish producers to help them align with their customers’ sustainability ambitions. The guide is informed by ongoing engagement with UK national retailers and foodservice companies.

Priorities and goals vary between businesses but the research found that Science-Based Targets (SBT) are becoming the standard. To capitalise on lucrative retail and foodservice opportunities Scottish producers need to be ahead of the curve to help their customers reach their Net Zero ambitions.

The onus isn't entirely on producers though. Many of the companies engaged while researching the guide highlighted their commitment to collaboration, particularly in simplifying sustainability reporting across the supply chain.
