Walkers: Chickpea-based non-HFSS snacks

For almost 20 years, Walkers has invested in innovative recipe changes and new product development to increase healthier options for consumers, without compromising on taste.

Most recently, in July 2024, Walkers snacks launched three new chickpea-based, non-HFSS snacks across the Wotsits and Monster Munch brands - forming a cross-brand platform named ‘Yummy With’. The new range of chickpea snacks is less than 100 calories, 25% lower in salt than the average extruded product, and provides a source of fibre.

This follows years of testing and refining the recipe, made possible by the ingenuity of our food scientists based at our global R&D hub in Leicester.

Due to innovations like the new chickpea range, we are on track to meet our goal of 50% of UK snacks sales coming from products that are either non-HFSS or sold in portions of 100 Calories or less by 2025 - an ambition set in 2022 and boosted with an initial investment of £35 million.
